This spring, the 2022 intern class had the opportunity to travel to Central Asia. The immersive trip was planned with the intention of exposing our interns to first-hand experiences where they could see God at work, engaging them with a different culture. Trips like these allow for the connection with long-term cross- cultural workers as they examine what the Lord might have for them in the future. Every intern said they returned from the experience in Central Asia with a renewed outlook and deeper understanding of God’s call on their life. There is so much value in entering into someone’s world and immense encouragement that comes from groups that are willing to engage in the lives of long-term cross-cultural workers. Even in simple conversations, there is opportunity for mutual edification, laughter, and encouragement in Christ. This phenomena is something we experience here in the South Side neighborhood as well. Our team spent the last fifteen weeks prior to their Central Asian expedition participating in the Perspectives on the World Christian Movement course. The themes and ideas they had spent weeks studying and hearing about from speakers were seen lived out and experienced as they engaged with the Central Asian long-term workers and community. This opportunity to see God at work, firsthand, in other places was a distinct blessing and incredible experience to see how our God is a God of the nations. As followers of Christ, we have the distinct privilege and blessing to be involved with what God is doing on a global scale whether we travel internationally or not.
