Thrilled to Be Proven Wrong

When you think of home, it’s often a place. But it can also be represented by specific feelings, smells, or… most importantly, people. Part of our mission at Rail//Line Coffee is to give people a place where they can foster community because we all know that how we feel about where we live is, in large part, a product of the strength of our relationships. Dorothy Billington has called the South Side home for 71years. (She used to work at one of CLDI’s first establishments, Koinonia Mexican Restaurant!) When she heard there was going to be a new coffee shop in the neighborhood, she said, “No way is anyone going to build a coffee shop here.

It goes without saying that she was thrilled to be proven wrong. Dorothy says the staff know her by name when she walks through the door and, if she hasn’t been in in a while, they always notice. “The baristas always makes me feel comfortable and the people are so kind.” In her opinion, the South Side needed more activity, and Rail//Line has been the perfect addition to the neighborhood she has always called home.
